Seeing Clearly: New Opportunities for VFW Members and Their Families

'Investing in our veterans creates stability for military families and opens doors to new career opportunities in optical by applying the valuable skills gained from their military service'

Approximately 4.4% of veterans find themselves unemployed, according to a summer 2021 jobs report from the U.S. Department of Labor. Eyemart Express, a leading national optical retailer and the exclusive VFW eye care partner, is focused on hiring veterans to help decrease this statistic.

Like other trade professions, the optical field offers skills that people can learn on the job and remain with them for the rest of their lives. That is why Eyemart Express has launched a variety of training and development programs to help those who do not have optical experience. Currently, 22 states require a license for opticians. The process to get licensed can take several years and be costly for applicants. Eyemart Express is removing all barriers with a program for its associates that provides training, support, and any tools needed to achieve and maintain a licensed status.

“Investing in our veterans creates stability for military families and opens doors to new career opportunities in optical by applying the valuable skills gained from their military service,” says Bill Butler, Eyemart Express Chief Operations Officer. “We are committed to honoring these deserving men and women and showing our appreciation of the sacrifices they have made for our country.”

Also, with more than 230 stores across the country, Eyemart Express provides transfer opportunities for veterans and military families who are interested in moving to be closer to family or explore a new town.

Positions at Eyemart Express range from full- and part-time sales associates to lab technicians and licensed opticians. The optical retailer offers competitive pay and benefits, including a generous 401(k) match, paid time off with additional bonus days, access to telehealth services, and interest free or discounted purchasing programs.
