VFW Salutes Army’s 242 Years of Service

VFW offers past and present soldiers its sincere appreciation

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Since 1775, the men and women of the United States Army have been bravely standing up to protect the freedom and American way of life we enjoy. Today, while we observe Flag Day, we also celebrate the Army’s long-standing service and sacrifice. Army 242nd Birthday

Organized originally as the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, the Army we know today has spent the past 242 years of service growing and evolving to meet the ever-changing faces of danger and terrorism.

With an impressively long history full of accomplishments, perhaps the only thing more remarkable is the integrity and dedication of each of its individual members.

On this important day, we not only celebrate the U.S. Army’s 242-year anniversary and selfless service of its soldiers, but also the flag which they have sworn to protect.

The nearly 1.7 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliary would like to offer every American soldier — past and present — a sincere “thank you.” Your courage, selflessness and dedication to ensuring America and our freedoms remain protected is deeply appreciated.
