Visiting the ‘Valley of the Sun’

The VFW’s 124th National Convention is fast approaching

In less than two months, VFW members will head to Phoenix, Arizona, to conduct the business of the organization. From July 22-27, delegates will hear from elected representatives, special guest speakers and multiple VFW award recipients.

Phoenix offers much to see and do when you are not attending meetings. The Arizona Military Museum, Desert Botanical Garden and the Heard Museum are just a few favorites.

Phoenix ArizonaFor those planning to fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, dubbed America's Friendliest Airport, you will have a short ride downtown. A four-mile drive, downtown Phoenix can be accessed via rideshare, taxi, or public transportation like Valley Metro Rail, the city’s light rail.

Valley Metro Rail is a 28-mile line linking Phoenix to nearby Tempe and Mesa. It also stops at attractions such as the Phoenix Art Museum and Chase Field. Visit https://www.valleymetro.org/ for more information.

Phoenix has a roving hospitality team known as Downtown Ambassadors on duty seven days a week. Wearing orange shirts that read “ASK ME” on the back, the ambassadors offer complimentary services such as walking visitors to their hotels, providing directions, offering restaurant recommendations, or serving as umbrella escorts.

If you have not yet made hotel reservations, VFW’s housing closes June 21. Visit https://www.vfw.org/Convention to access the official VFW hotels in Phoenix.

The above link also has information for those wishing to rent scooters for easier mobility during the convention.
