‘Don’t Let Anything Stop You’

Army veteran Alyssa Parker encourages veterans to go to school so they can follow their dreams

Alyssa Parker, 34, enlisted because she wanted to serve her country. She spent nearly five years in the Army, including deployments to Kuwait and Jordan.

After she left the military, Parker searched online for veteran tuition assistance and found the VFW’s "Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship."

Army veteran Alyssa Parker“Thank you for the support and for making it possible for me to attend graduate school without having to take out a bunch of loans,” she said.

Parker is working toward her master’s degree in global environmental policy at American University. She hopes to work for a nonprofit or in the government sector after graduation.

She encourages other veterans to go to school so they can follow their dreams.

“Do it,” she said. “Don’t let anything stop you from pursuing an education.”
