VFW Members Kick Off #SportClipsSalute Week

Together with Sport Clips Haircuts, the VFW has awarded more than $6.5 million in veteran scholarships

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. and its Auxiliary will be out in force Sept. 15-21, 2019, in an effort to show their support and appreciation for Sport Clips Haircuts team members as part of the VFW’s first #SportClipsSalute appreciation event.

VFW Members Kick Off SportClipsSalute Week

Sport Clips worked with the VFW to establish the VFW’s “Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship” program in 2013, after working together for more than five years to provide phone calls home for America’s service members and their families. The VFW’s “Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship” program provides up to $5,000 in assistance per semester to qualified U.S. service members and veterans who are in need of financial support to pursue an education at post-secondary institutions, including trade schools. So far Sport Clips, clients, team members and product partners have raised more than $7.5 million for the VFW and have funded more than 1,450 scholarships.

VFW members, and their families and friends are encouraged to visit their local Sport Clips store, purchase a haircut service or product and say “thank you” to the franchise owners, managers and Sport Clips team members for their continued support of the veteran community.

The VFW is also encouraging VFW and VFW Auxiliary members to post about their visit to social media using #SportClipsSalute. As an added incentive, members who participate will be entered into a drawing to win a $1,000 Community Support Grant from the VFW Foundation. See the VFW’s #SportClipsSalute Appreciation Week Facebook event page for the drawing’s full details and rules.

“Taking on a lot of student loan debt could financially destroy a young military family, and the passionate support of Sport Clips Haircuts, franchisees and their clients is nothing shy of life-changing for the service members and veterans we’re able to assist,” said VFW National Commander Doc Schmitz.
