KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On Friday, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. recognizes the sixth anniversary of the end of the Iraq War, honoring the service and sacrifices of America’s more than 1.5 million Iraq War veterans and the 4,486 service members who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Facing a never-before-seen breed of terrorist on an ever-evolving battlefield, the brave men and women of America’s New Greatest Generation rose to defend our nation without hesitation. Courageously rising to face a nameless enemy, they were tasked with the role of police officer, peacekeeper, humanitarian and caretaker of the world’s oppressed. They selflessly left their own families and loved ones behind to embrace these responsibilities and fulfill their duty.
No duty is greater than protecting America, our citizens, our ideals and our way of life, and this week, and this week especially, we honor and remember the American veterans of the Iraq War. Their commitment and fortitude will remain a shining example of service and sacrifice for generations to come.
