KANSAS CITY, Mo. — America’s largest organization of combat veterans has elected a Vietnam War veteran Quartermaster General for the 1.4 million-member Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.
Robert (Bob) Greene was elected VFW Quartermaster General on April 30 in Kansas City. As the fiscal and financial officer of the organization, Greene becomes accountable for all funds, securities and other property of the VFW.
“There’s no better man for the job. I am thrilled for Bob, and extremely pleased he’ll be overseeing the finances of the organization. The VFW is in excellent hands,” says VFW National Commander Richard L. DeNoyer.
Prior to accepting the position, Greene served as Assistant Quartermaster General 2005 – 2012, Director/Chief Information Officer 2001 – 2005, Director of Finance and Human Resources 1996 – 2001, Director of Purchasing and Life Membership 1985 – 1996 and Accounting Office Manager 1978 - 1985.
He is a native of Kansas City, Mo., and attended school there before joining the United States Army in 1970. His tour of duty was spent in Vietnam, where he served in a 101st Airborne light weapons infantry unit. For his service in Vietnam, he was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, an Air Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Following military service, Greene attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City and earned a degree in business administration in 1977. He came to work for the VFW national headquarters in 1978.
He is a member of the American Legion, Life Member of the VFW National Home and Legacy Life Member of VFW Post 7397 in Lenexa, Kan.
He resides in Lenexa with his wife Teresa.
