During high school I made the decision to join the United States Air Force. At the time, I didn’t know that this decision would impact my life the way it has.
My brother, currently a Technical Sergeant in the USAF, was my biggest motivator. He had joined just 4 years earlier. The USAF provided me with amazing mental and physical training to perform my duties as an airman and surgical technician. As a surgical technician, I had developed a newfound respect for the medical field. The USAF allowed me to continue my education and achieve my goal of becoming a registered nurse.
Two years into my military career, I deployed to Afghanistan. This deployment was life changing. I gained a new appreciation for life, learned more than I ever thought possible, and developed a sense of pride because I had made a difference. My family was proud. I was proud. I am proud to have served as a woman in the United States Air Force. Without the Air Force, I would not be where I am today and for that, I am grateful for the opportunity that I received.
Today, I am a veteran and member of a wonderful, respectable, and supportive organization called the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The VFW has welcomed me with open arms and has provided me with an enjoyable place to relax while giving me the opportunity to support my fellow veterans and their families.
