May 2017
VFW Member Dispatch
May is an especially important month for Americans. From showing our appreciation for America’s military, to raising awareness on mental health, we also dedicate two days to honoring and remembering the service and sacrifice of our service members: Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day.

Memorial Day, while a sacred day for us, is sadly overlooked by many Americans who have lost touch with the true meaning of this ever-important day. For many, it is no more than a celebration to kick off the summer. But together, we can change that.

As you go about your Memorial Day events later this month, we encourage each of you to explain the true meaning of the day to a friend, acquaintance or even a stranger who may be unfamiliar with its true connotation. While we’ll never be able to repay those who gave all in defense of our nation, educating our fellow Americans offers us a great opportunity to honor them.

On behalf of the VFW, thank you for your continued membership and for your service to our great nation.

Respectfully,
Your VFW Membership Team
