VFW DISPATCH – May 2015

h_border

May is an important month for us. It’s Military Appreciation Month, Mental Health Awareness Month and also holds two important days dedicated to our service members: Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is a sacred day for us, but sadly, it seems that America has lost touch with the true meaning of this ever-important day. For many it is no more than a celebration to kick off the summer. But together, we can change that. As you go about your Memorial Day events later this month, we encourage each of you to explain the true meaning of the day to a friend, acquaintance or even a stranger who may imply they’re unfamiliar with its meaning. While we can never repay those who gave all in support of our nation, educating our fellow Americans offers us a great way to honor them.

And this month, make it a point to encourage those who may be dealing with the effects of service to seek out help. Whether they left the service recently, or decades ago, we all share a common bond. Only we can fully understand what each other goes through during and after service. You may save someone’s life. Encourage them to visit MaketheConnection.net for help. Assisting today’s veterans is yet another way of giving back to those who are no longer with us.

On behalf of the VFW, thank you for your continued membership and for your service to our great nation.

Respectfully,

Your VFW Membership Team
