VFW Pauses to Remember America's Fallen

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On Monday, Memorial Day, the nearly 1.7 million members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. and its Auxiliary encourage each American to take time embracing the feeling of honor, patriotism and pride while we pause to remember our nation’s fallen. 

Monday we pay tribute to the millions of men and women who bravely rose up and fought for something greater than themselves … forfeiting their life to protect a home to which they never returned. Their sacrifice remains a somber testament to the steep price of achieving and maintaining freedom around the globe. 

Though we can never repay our debt to them, our attempt must be to remain dedicated to educating all who believe Memorial Day is just another holiday. By passing our knowledge along to the next generation, we can ensure the youth of tomorrow understand the true cost of our freedom.

In honor of our fallen, we must renew our commitment to do all we can to help those who’ve endured our country’s wars, and asked for nothing in return. America’s veterans deserve proper medical care and compensation for their many sacrifices to our country, and they deserve the opportunity for employment, education and a home in which to live. 

This Memorial Day, the VFW encourages every American to remember our fallen, honor their service, mourn their loss, and show gratitude to the families they left behind.
