The standard of excellence Marines live by has made them a symbol of honor and pride

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On Friday, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. joins with Americans to recognize and celebrate the 242nd birthday of the United States Marine Corps.

With a tradition rich in determination and valor, the men and women of the Marine Corps have defended our great nation in every American-armed conflict since 1775. Known for their tenacious fighting spirit and their unwillingness to accept defeat, the standard of excellence U.S. Marines live by has made them a national symbol of honor and pride.

Though they’ve faced an ever-evolving battlefield over the past two centuries, they have always stood ready at a moment’s notice, and have remained unwavering in their commitment to successfully complete any mission with which they are tasked.

The nearly 1.7 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliary proudly salute our Marines’ sacrifices and dedication to duty, and service to country.

Happy Birthday, Marines!
