Philippine VFW Post Earns National Award

VFW Post 2485 provides vital burial support to veterans’ families

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is proud to announce that VFW Post 2485 in Angeles City, Philippines, has been selected to receive the prestigious Fred C. Hall Memorial Outstanding Post Special Project Award in honor of its “Burial Assistance Program” project.

The Fred C. Hall Award recognizes VFW Posts, County Councils, Districts and Departments for unique and outstanding community service projects.

VFW Post 2485 is being recognized for its dedication and commitment to ensuring the families of America’s fallen heroes have the support they need when tragedy strikes. While coordinating veteran burials and performing graveside services, Post members spend hundreds of hours in negotiation and coordination with Philippine officials, local funeral homes and the U.S. Embassy. The Post provides meaningful assistance while lessening the emotional toll and administrative burden on veterans and their survivors.

In announcing the award, VFW National Commander John A. Biedrzycki Jr., praised VFW Post 2485 saying, “Supporting and aiding military families during times of grief provides a vital service to our veterans and their families at times when it’s needed most. The unique and comprehensive burial services Post 2485 provides show military and veteran families the compassion and support their loved one deserve, and exemplifies the mission of the VFW.”

Representatives from the Post will travel to the 117th VFW National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., July 23-27, to receive a $1,000 service scholarship for future community projects. They will also receive a plaque congratulating them for this exceptional project.
