Attention VFW Posts: Honor Korean War Veterans

All Korean War veterans are invited to attend the ceremony at the Korean War Veterans Memorial. Age and distance, unfortunately, will prevent most from attending, but you can still help commemorate their day by hosting a “Pancakes for Patriots”-type event at your VFW Post to honor and educate local communities about the service and sacrifices made by so many of our VFW members and their families. The 10 a.m. (Eastern) ceremony will be carried live on the national networks, with coverage of pre-ceremony events beginning as early as 8 or 9 a.m. on the Pentagon Channel, as well as stream live on their website at http://www.pentagonchannel.mil/. Other news networks, such as ABS, CBS, CNN, C-SPAN, FOX and NBC/MSNBC should also be broadcasting the program either in part or in its entirety.

Below for your information are a suggested planning guide and media alert for individual Posts to host the “Pancakes for Patriots” breakfast. The Korean War Commemoration Committee is especially interested in VFW Posts hosting such events in the metropolitan areas of Washington, D.C.; the Hampton Roads area of Virginia; La Crosse, Wis.; and in Austin, Birmingham, Louisville, Minneapolis, Nashville, San Antonio and Tucson.

This will be a big event in Washington, so we encourage VFW Posts everywhere to make the most of this one-time event locally. Please RSVP if your Post will participate, or if you have any additional questions. More information about the 60th anniversary is on the commemoration committee’s website at http://www.koreanwar60.com/. Other veteran and military service organizations are also invited to host their own similar events.
