Hornaday Makes NASCAR History

KANSAS CITY, Mo.  On Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Nashville Superspeedway, Ron Hornaday and the No. 33 Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) Chevrolet Silverado team made NASCAR history by winning five races in a row—a feat that had never previously been accomplished in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series History. Hornaday now joins ranks with NASCAR legends Richard Petty and Bobby Allison, becoming only the third NASCAR driver to ever win five races in a row, and the first driver in 38 years to do so. With the victory, crew chief Rick Ren also becomes the Truck Series most successful crew chief with 27 victories among five different drivers.

“I think Ron’s streak is pretty awesome,” said Rick Carelli, Kevin Harvick Inc. General Manager and spotter for the No. 33 Truck. “To get an entire team to work together and for everything to go right like it has is unbelievable. For a driver to accomplish something like this, to overcome all of the obstacles that can occur during a race weekend is incredible. Something like this is hard enough to achieve at your local short-track, much less doing it in a national touring series like the Truck Series. It has not been done in 38 years. I think that statistic speaks for itself.”

Hornaday’s fourth win came at O’Reilly Raceway Park (ORP) on Friday, July 24, 2009 in the No. 33 Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Chevrolet Silverado.

“We are thrilled about Ron’s victories, and couldn’t have asked for a better driver to represent the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He’s passionate about our troops, and takes the time to truly give them an experience they will never forget,” said VFW National Commander Glen Gardner.

Hornaday’s fifth win at Nashville Superspeedway in Nashville, TN marked his 45th career victory.
