KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) has announced that the coronavirus pandemic has made it impossible to hold its 122nd VFW National Convention at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland, July 31-August 5, 2021, as originally planned.
“While the VFW is disappointed that our national convention will not be held in Baltimore as anticipated, I appreciate Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and his team for reaching out to us, and for their professionalism throughout a difficult and complex situation,” said VFW National Commander Hal Roesch. “As an organization that has successfully adapted to the ever-changing pandemic situation, we are looking into alternative locations and will make additional information available as we have it.”
In a meeting with VFW leadership and Mayor Scott’s office, city officials expressed their regret and hope the VFW will consider Baltimore for future events.
“I want to thank the VFW for their keen partnership and commitment to public health. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced everyone to make some tough decisions, but our brave veterans remind us that leadership demands courage and the obligation to always do what’s right. Baltimore is a beautiful city that has played a significant role in writing the story of America. While I regret VFW will not experience the culture and history of Baltimore this summer, I am hopeful that our city will remain a desired destination for future events,” said Brandon Scott, mayor of the city of Baltimore.
Anyone who made room reservations directly through VFW Housing will automatically have their reservation cancelled, but any members who made room reservations independently will need to call their hotel and cancel their reservation.
