VFW Celebrates the Air Force’s 72 Years of Service

The VFW offers a sincere thank you to every American Airman — past and present

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On Sept. 18, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. joins in celebrating the 72nd birthday of the world’s most dominant air, space and cyber force, the United States Air Force.

Originally organized as part of the U.S. Army in 1907, the Air Force became a separate military department on this day when a VFW Life member, President Harry S. Truman, signed the National Security Act of 1947. Today, our Air Force continues to protect and defend our country by air, space and cyberspace.

Please join the VFW in wishing every American Airman a happy 72nd birthday, and thanking them for the service and sacrifice.
