VFW Celebrates America’s Soldiers and the Flag They Defend

Happy 244th birthday to the United States Army

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. is celebrating the proud 244-year history of the United States Army, and its brave soldiers who have been heroically defending our freedom and way of life since June 14, 1775.

From the revolution which founded our nation, to the current War on Terrorism, the men and women of the U.S. Army are always prepared for battle and stand ready to defend our nation, ensuring we remain the “land of the free.”

On this important day, we not only celebrate the Army’s many contributions, but also the flag it so selflessly protects and defends.

The more than 1.6 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliary would like to offer every American soldier – past and present – a sincere “thank you.” It is because of your strength, courage and dedication that the American way of life remains an ethos worth protecting. Today, and every day, we honor and recognize you for your service.
