VFW Names Post 3701 February #StillServing Post of the Month

'It’s in times like these that, as a community organization, we need to do our part and serve those who supported us while we were fighting overseas'

Congratulations to VFW Post 3701 in Lakeview, Michigan, for being named the VFW's #StillServing Post of the Month for February 2021.

VFW Post 3701 quickly mobilized as the pandemic reached their Lakeview, Michigan, community in spring 2020. They knew protective gear already was in short supply for hospitals, so they began to help by making face masks.

VFW Post 3701 StillServing Post of the MonthOver a three-day period last March, members of Post 3701 and its Auxiliary made and packaged more than 450 masks with adjustable straps, bendable nose pieces and pockets for filters. The Post and volunteers continued to work socially distanced in order to meet the need for local workers and families requesting additional masks. Later in 2020, in partnership with the Red Cross, they held blood drives, as well.

“It’s in times like these that, as a community organization, we need to do our part and serve those who supported us while we were fighting overseas. It’s the least we can do,” said Commander Stacey Roberts.

All this is even more remarkable because just a few years ago, Post 3701 was on the verge of closing. Roberts and several fellow members, however, were determined to save it. Their efforts were a success, and the Post continues to thrive and help their community. The VFW is proud to recognize their commitment and ongoing service.

We’re grateful for every Post #StillServing and renewing hope in their communities. To be considered for Post of the Month, the VFW encourages all Posts to:

  • Submit their #StillServing story.
  • Share on social media using #StillServing.
  • Describe the Post’s community involvement during the duration of the #StillServing campaign (February 2020 to present).
  • Be verified in good standing with recorded community service hours.

If you’re a veteran with a #StillServing story to share, please submit it today. Thank you for making a difference and helping us honor all the men and women committed to a life of service.
