Utah Student Named VFW Scout of the Year

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Parker Jay Duncan, Bountiful, Utah, has been named the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States 2007-2008 Scout of the Year.
Duncan will receive a $5,000 scholarship and was sponsored by the Department of Utah.

The VFW established the first scholarship award of $300 for Eagle Scouts in 1929. The award recognizes scouts who demonstrate outstanding citizenship, patriotism and scholastic achievement in their private life and in the community.

Scouts who have earned their Eagle Scout Award, Venturing youths who earn the Venture Silver Award and Sea Scouts who have earned the Sea Scout Quartermaster Award are eligible to compete for this prestigious award.

This year’s winner was selected from 42 outstanding participates submitted by 42 VFW Departments.
